Great Customer Review!

Just a friendly reminder that the Statute of a Limitations is almost expired on damage your home likely suffered during the worst hail storm in 25 years that we all suffered through last March, (2016.) If you haven’t had your home inspected yet for damage, your time is quickly running out to do so. We were shocked to learn that our 7-1/2 year old “THIRTY YEAR” roof was totaled, as were all of our gutters, downspouts and carport roof. We had a very reputable roofing company come out and inspect the roof, a week or two after the storm, and after getting up on the roof and thoroughly inspecting it, assured us that there was only about $350.00 to $400.00 worth of damage…(a few missing tiles and some slight dents in our three attic whirly-birds. We were very relieved, having seen so much damage from our entire area here in West Plano all the way over to Rockwell and beyond… We decided to let our insurance company (Travelers…who are the best…) come out and inspect our property, too…just to get a second opinion. Imagine our total disbelief when, after a thorough 2-1/2 hour detailed inspection, we were told that our roof, our gutters and downspouts and our carport roof were all totaled! Since nothing was leaking, we decided to wait until the dust settled, since suppliers were running out of certain roofing materials, the selection of roof tiles was very limited, the good roofers were booked out for months and we saw way too many roofs being replaced AFTER DARK BY FLASHLIGHT!!! We have just completed our big construction job, and having had a roof replaced before, and exterior paint, etc…I can’t begin to tell you what a great experience we had this time with DALTEX CONTRACTORS. Lance and Tracy (owners) are the best… They are the most knowledgeable ever…they spent a lot of time with us, their crews were so careful with our immense amount of flowerbeds and landscaping and they are perfectionists…(which is pretty hard to find in this day and age.) Their quote was really reasonable, too, especially with all of the extras they include as a standard inclusion to their work, (unheard of.) We highly recommend them to anyone who needs roofing, siding, gutters and down-spouts and/or paint. Although, I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again for ANY home projects or remodeling jobs. Still, regardless of whom you might decide to use, make sure you get your exterior professionally inspected before the end of this month. I’m pretty sure you’re going to find that you have a lot more damage than you ever realized. GET TWO OPINIONS, your insurance company being one of them. If you survived that hail storm unscathed, you are the luckiest person on the planet earth and should definitely be buying lottery tickets on a regular basis. If you have a leak and don’t realize it for awhile…until it worsens. and you get black mold…you won’t even believe the disaster and expense you’ll be facing… as black mold is a state–regulated and controlled hazmat-level situation that you’ll have no control over.

Spring Maintenance Tips

Spring is approaching, be prepared.  Here is your list of things to do to prepare your home for Spring.

  • Gutters and downspouts: Pull leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts. Reattach gutters that have pulled away from the house. Run a hose on the roof and check for proper drainage. If leaks exist, dry the area and use caulking or epoxy to seal the leak.
  • Siding: Clean siding with a pressure washer to keep mold from growing. Check all wood surfaces for weathering and paint failure. If wood is showing through, sand the immediate area and apply a primer coat before painting. If paint is peeling, scrape loose paint and sand smooth before painting.
  • Exterior caulking: Inspect caulking and replace if deteriorating. Scrape out all of the eroding caulk and re-caulk needed area.
  • Window sills, door sills, and thresholds: Fill cracks, caulk edges, repaint or replace if necessary.
  • Window and door screens: Clean screening and check for holes. If holes are bigger than a quarter, that is plenty of room for bugs to climb in. Patch holes or replace the screen. Save bad screen to patch holes next year. Tighten or repair any loose or damaged frames and repaint. Replace broken, worn, or missing hardware. Wind can ruin screens and frames if they are allowed flap and move so make sure they are securely fastened. Tighten and lubricate door hinges and closers.
  • Foundation: Check foundation walls, floors, concrete, and masonry for cracking, heaving, or deterioration. If you can slide a nickel into a crack in your concrete floor, slab or foundation call a professional immediately.
  • Roof: Inspect roof surface flashing, eaves, and soffits. Check flashings around all surface projections and sidewalls.
  • Deck and porches: Check all decks, patios, porches, stairs, and railings for loose members and deterioration. Open decks and wood fences need to be treated every 4-6 years, depending on how much exposure they get to sun and rain. If the stain doesn’t look like it should or water has turned some of the wood a dark grey, call Daltex Contractors to treat your deck and fence.
  • Landscape: This is a natural for spring home maintenance. Cut back and trim all vegetation and overgrown bushes from structures. Limbs and leaves can cut into your home’s paint and force you to have that side of the house repainted. A little trimming can save a lot of money and time.
  • Sprinklers: Check lawn sprinkler system for leaky valves, exposed lines, and improperly working sprinkler heads. If there is an area of your yard that collects too much water or doesn’t get enough, run the sprinklers to figure out the problem. If it’s not something you can fix yourself, call a professional before your lawn needs the water.
